Beyoncé Debuts ‘I Was Here’ Video For World Humanitarian Day:
Beyonce performs at United NationsWorld Humanitarian Day is August 19 and megastar Beyoncé Knowles-Carter joined Global Aid Organizations in bringing awareness to this pivotal day of unity and purpose.
Performing in the United Nation’s General Assembly Hall on August 10, Beyoncé  recorded a  video entitled, “I Was Here.” The stunning video, featuring stirring and powerful imagery of humanity around the globe, was directed by Kenzo Digital and Sophie Muller, with production by Scott Robinson.
Donating her time and music to this cause, the singer, who has also worked with Girls Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS) and amfAR, a foundation for AIDS research, explained why she pledged her commitment to this cause.

“We all see the headlines and we think what can I really do to help?”, said Beyoncé. “World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity for all of us to work together to make a difference. This is our time to leave our mark on the world and show that we were here and we care.”

Previously, the singer — who has recently been accused of turning her back on social responsibility– was asked why she chooses to remain quiet about her charity work. Beyoncé  acknowledged that might not be the best tactic and that she was actively working to change that:
“I’ve realized that sometimes it helps a cause more if I talk publicly about it,” she said. “That’s what increases awareness.”
As was previously reported by NewsOne, she performed “I Was Here” in front of a star-studded crowd that actress Julia Stiles, R&B recording artist The-Dream and songwriter Diane Warren, who wrote the song.

“World Humanitarian Day celebrates humanitarian work,” said Valerie Amos, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs. “I hope everyone will pledge to complete at least one humanitarian action – however great or small – through www.whd-iwashere.org. Together we can create an unprecedented awareness of the plight of people affected by crises around the world.”
